sculptural works
|
My sculptural work is concerned primarily with presenting the characteristics and properties of "ordinary" materials as a starting point for suggestion and evocation.

These works study how individual materials can be formed and presented to interact and contrast in order to create dialogs among contrasting issues -such as: sameness and difference, simplicity and complexity basic forms and unexpected combinations the "real" world and its underlying mystery the material world and the world of ideas and imagination.
Found in these works are dripping water and humming motors which are auditory, as well as visual, experiences. One of my pieces (two eight-foot tall fuzzy rectangular towers) involves audio speakers hidden inside to play abstract, techno-bass music during the show. The participation of sound in the sculptural experience (or the presence of sculpture in musical or dramatic presentations) is a thematic direction I pursue in my current studio practices.
