where's jack?
salon de refuse, april 2001

| In this version of jack-in-the-box a participant was to turn the cylindrical towers covered with padding and faux fur. The turning triggered "jacks" sounds and changed the pitch and intervals of the sounds - dependant on the speed and direction of the motion. The action of turning the two towers and the sounds that result were all intended to bring back a sense of behavior and interaction from childhood.
Wheres Jack? was in a group show of artists that did not get into the 2001 Oregon Biennial exhibition. This was more a whimsical reaction to the museum rather than a group of spiteful rejects. |
